Playroom Tour

I had about two seconds to take a picture of this space while it was tidy. Normally, it looks like a toy tornado went through it.
It’s another rainy, lazy kind of morning around these parts, so I thought I would take you guys on a little tour of the kids’ playroom. Long, long ago I showed you Ryland’s nursery. Since then I’ve also put together a playroom and Bobby’s nursery. They are nothing fancy or particularly Pinterest-worthy, but I have found some pieces/hacks/tips that I think any playroom could use to be more functional/kid friendly.

So, the first stop on our tour will be the “art nook”.

I really wanted a designated little space for arts and crafts, where Ryland could color/paint and I wouldn’t freak out about the mess (okay maybe freak out a little but not as much as if she were at our kitchen table).
-I got the super cute (and machine washable!) rug from Target’s Pillowfort line. You can still find it here.
– The table and chairs were an awesome find from one of my favorite local consignment stores, The Laisy Daisy. The wooden house rules sign is also a score from The Laisy Daisy.
-The green storage baskets are the basic stackable basket from The Container Store and you can find them (on sale!) here.
-I painted the chalkboard accent using Valspar’s Devine Color chalkboard paint in Blue Jeans. You can get it at Target here. R did the frame accent (sorry you can’t buy him anywhere 😉 )
-I mounted (or got R to mount) these super cute utensil holders from Ikea to use crayon/pencil/marker storage (also conveniently out of Ryland’s reach)
Our next stop is the designated “toy/play area” (of course these toys never actually stay in this area for more than 5 minutes)
-Futon cover is from Amazon.
-Foam tiles are from Skip Hop and can be found here.
-Giant storage baskets are Home Goods (I love a giant storage basket, so nice to be able to just toss all the stuffed animals in there when you want to clean up)
-White tool chest is from The Laisy Daisy (and a Christmas gift from my mom 🙂 )
-Plush rocking lamb is PB Kids.

Our final stop is the “reading nook.”

This is probably my favorite part of the playroom, because I am a big old book nerd and hope my kids are the same way.
-Cozy faux fur rug is another Pillowfort find from Target and is here.
-“This is My Happy Place” pillow is also Target Pillowfort and can be found here.
-Shelves are another Ikea hack, actually super cheap $3.99 spice racks that I spray painted white and gold.

So that’s it friends. Nothing too crazy or exciting. I’ve seen far more elaborate playroom on Pinterest. But I feel like it’s a space that is both sweet and functional, and more importantly there is nothing in it that is so expensive I’d be heartbroken if it were destroyed. Ryland colors on the table and chairs. She gets goldfish in the rug and peanut butter on the futon cover. Life actually happens here, and that’s okay because that’s what it’s for, PLAY.

Stay tuned for tomorrow and I’ll give you a little tour of Bobby’s nursery (which he technically does not use yet, will one day, God willing!)

And for now I’ll leave you with an adorable video of Bobby gurgling, just because it’s Monday and we all need some sweet baby coos in our lives.
